Summary:
This position leads (at a district level) the development, implementation, and evaluation of student activities, programs, in accordance with the national and state specific Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant policies as well as the mission of Laramie County Community College (LCCC). GEAR UP Coordinators are responsible for carrying out the goals set by the federal grant. They do so by setting goals for their assigned areas. The Coordinator motivates and supports their staff in achieving grant objectives. They may also lead upward, by offering suggestions and feedback to upper management. Because Coordinators are more involved in the day-to-day workings of the grant, they provide valuable information to upper management to help improve the grant's bottom line. Coordinators supervise a group of tutors and liaisons in a school district. They are responsible for hiring and evaluating their staff performance. The Coordinator position is also responsible for budgeting, creating, planning, developing, and coordinating logistics for student and parent workshops. This position is responsible for implementing goals and objectives of the GEAR UP grant in all its programming such as: transitional advising, financial aid information, college preparation, and retention initiatives for secondary students and their parents in the LCCC service area. The Coordinator is responsible for the selection, training, scheduling, delegation and on-going supervision of the tutors and providing online and handout support materials for students, parents, and families.

Budget/Reporting
Review, monitor, and calculate activity budget as well as program requests
Consult with accounting compliance office to monitor budgets, maintain a variety of records regarding student activities, event budgets, and attendance levels
Project expenses for personnel, supplies and equipment and make budget recommendations to Outreach Site Manager
Reporting on projects, planning collaborations with other project professionals, and evaluating projects
Track, analyze, and provide data on student involvement participation numbers
Edit and approve flyers, posters, literature, and other materials prepared by staff for on and off-campus distribution
Participate in the development of marketing strategies to promote GEAR UP activities and services to maximize student involvement
Prepare reports as needed or requested; review and audit financial transactions made by GEAR UP staff
Supervision
Supervise the GEAR UP student support assistants, liaison, mentors, and tutor staff. This may include hiring and selection, delegation of duties, evaluation, and firing
Train new staff on operational processes as well as professional development
The COORDINATOR works collaboratively with tutors to identify and analyze strengths and areas needing improvement of students thus creating individual study strategies
Establish measures for part time performance evaluation including assessing their ability to synthesize course content and study skills necessary to succeed in school
Supervise tutors periodically at the schools and attend all tutor training sessions and meetings as needed
Collaborate with liaisons at the secondary schools in accessing students, staff, administrators, as well as counselors and teachers
Oversee freshmen services support assistant and oversee compliance of services to freshmen increasing their persistence rates
Assign, supervise, direct, and coordinate GEAR UP part time staff for programming events
Programming
Create and submit SERF (Special Event Request Forms) which are used to create and plan programming and to request approval from the University of Wyoming GEAR UP staff to proceed with an event
Conduct classes and/or workshops and activities based on project materials including consulting with program participants to determine needs, locate materials and adapt materials to appropriate grade or teaching level
Establish protocol for completing relevant paperwork necessary for GEAR UP participation
Work closely with teens and pre-teens to establish a positive learning experience
Provide career/ academic counseling relevant to GEAR UP's mission
Serve as a transitional advisor
Creatively plan, organize, coordinate, implement, supervise, and evaluate a Monthly Family Night
Provide tools and methods to help student understand academic knowledge at the secondary education level
Implement the goals and objectives of the GEAR UP WY state priority grant
Analyze strengths and areas of weakness in individual student's study strategies
Meet with students in schools to give them information about upcoming events, to provide services, and to follow-up on academics
Design, implement, and administer communication strategies, workshops/events, and programs to support the success of students for standardized exams such as ACT/SAT as well as PLAN and EXPLORE
Resourcefully develop, coordinate, implement, or contribute to a newsletter for GEAR UP families
Integrate programming to effectively advance financial aid resource awareness and enhance understanding of all GEAR UP participants
Collect data on the success of student programming efforts
Communicate with internal campus, GEAR UP WY, service providers, or partner schools regarding assistance with programs or events
Collaboration/Public Relations
Program Development/Management
Coordinate tutoring and other student needs with school liaisons, teachers, parents and GEAR UP staff
Adhere to LCCC, GEAR UP grant, and school district policy and procedures
Communicate with teachers, students, parents and staff
Employ knowledge and use of linguistic flexibility (active listening, explaining, evaluating, etc.)
Work with campus departments on programs which promote the success of various student activities
Promote GEAR UP activities to local school districts, students, parents and the public
Coordinate and advertise project events and activities i.e. designing and mailing event flyers
Make use of excellent written and oral communication skills
In order to stay integrated in the college community, partake in LCCC-related events that might not be directly related to the grant Ex: Access, Success, Completion seminar, Week of Welcome BBQ, Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, etc.
Demonstrate appropriate professional demeanor with all faculty, staff and students
Make referrals to other supportive services as necessary
Participate in training sessions and/or state meetings related to the GEAR UP grant
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or greater
Experience working with adolescent participants, their families, and public school personnel
Experience working in education, academic counseling, or related field
Satisfactory background check with the Wyoming Department of Child and Family Services
Ability to travel
At least two years' experience working with individuals from the target low income population and/or overcoming similar barriers
Experience with programming and program development
Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience working with grant projects
Current computer and technology skills with word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, presentation packages, internet, and e-mail
Knowledge of curriculum and workshop development
Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain partnerships with local schools, students, parents, and the public
