The Laboratory Technical Specialist coordinates, plans and directs the daily functioning of the lab section under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor.Performs laboratory testing, including waived, moderate and high complexity, to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.Utilizes professional judgment and critical thinking skills to develop new procedures or methods, educate others and improve with all members of the health care team to provide quality patient care and exceptional customer service.Serves as a technical expert to other technical staff.

Assists with technical oversight of the lab section, leads special projects, trains staff, provides suggestions to improve processes, and serves as a technical and performs laboratory testing and ensures that testing is in compliance with applicable laboratory governing bodies.
2.Submits orders for section supplies for daily operations and assists laboratory supervisor in evaluating supply needs for capital budgets.
3.Uses critical thinking skills and professional judgment to evaluate test results, troubleshoot complex lab problems and provide clinical interpretations and expertise to other healthcare staff.
4.Assures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, proper daily documentation and collection and analysis of appropriate samples.
5.Ensures that section resources (staff, equipment, supplies) are utilized in a manner that optimizes effectiveness while maintaining cost containment and minimizing waste.
6.Maintains a positive work environment by demonstrating positive interpersonal relations with co-workers, physicians, patients and others.
7.Keeps the laboratory supervisor informed on all matters pertinent to the operation of the lab section.
a minimum of ten (10) continuing education contact hours per year or twenty (20) contact hours per two years.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor s in Medical Technology or related Life Science
MT certification through ASCP, NCA or AMT and board eligible with receipt of certification within one year of hire date
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior clinical laboratory experienceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
