The Writing & Communications Center Tutors provide guidance for student writers and speakers in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Tutors facilitate active student learning by holding conversations, as opposed to directing or lecturing; asking questions; encouraging the use of resources; providing prompts; and at all times insisting that the student participates in the session and maintains responsibility for and ownership of his/her own work. Tutors do not write on student work and do not proofread/edit.
Work Schedule: This is a part-time position. Flexible and variable hours up to 19.75 hours per week. Operation hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00pm-7:00pm, Friday 9:00am-4:30pm and Saturday 11:00am-4:00pm. Schedule will be negotiated with supervisor.

Compensation: $12.00/hr depending on experience and education.
Tutoring
Responsibilities:
Assist the College in its mission to engage and inspire student learning and academic success by relating course work to everyday life.
Assist student writers and speakers at any stage of the writing and/or speech-planning process, on topics from any discipline.
Assess student needs and set goals for the consultation.
Provide helpful, informed feedback and insights about writing/public speaking in general and/or in specific response to a student's particular task or draft.
Guide writers and speakers in obtaining an audience member's perspective on their own work.
Provide handouts and resources as per individual student needs.
Foster a positive experience with learning in general, and with the Writing & Communications Center specifically.
Welcome, respond to, engage with, and assist visitors as they arrive.
Maintain confidentiality about tutoring sessions and students.
Maintain a professional, respectful attitude regarding other tutors, faculty, course work, and course and grading policies.
Demonstrate friendly, open, and professional demeanor with all students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Participate in staff meetings and other professional development opportunities (including reading pedagogical texts) as provided.
Make referrals to other support services on campus as necessary.
Computer/Technology
Responsibilities:
Record and enter data in computer software programs.
Prepare, assemble, edit, format, and write unit publications, including student handouts, informational materials, and/or website material. Ensure all materials meet established standards of
appearance and content.
Answer telephones and emails.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and/or minimum GPA of 3.5 in writing and/or communication courses.
Completion of at least 25 hours of college course credit, with 9-12 of those hours in writing and/or communication classes.
At least two years (1900 hours) of full-time employment/experience in a field primarily using writing and/or communication expertise; this may be substituted for the above education requirements.
Successful completion of a current college course (1-3 credit hours) in writing center pedagogy, composition pedagogy, rhetoric pedagogy, or communication pedagogy; this may be substituted in combination with professional experience in a field primarily using writing and/or communication expertise and with other education requirements noted above.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Completed college degree in the field of writing and/or communication, with a cumulative GPA of
3.0 or higher and/or minimum GPA of 3.5 in writing and communication courses.
Previous writing and communication center experience.
Previous tutoring experience.
Previous college-level teaching experience in composition, rhetoric, and/or communication.
Demonstrated knowledge of current general or writing/communication-specific pedagogical theory.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
