a. INTRODUCTION:
This position is located in the Fuels Management Flight, within the Logistics Readiness Squadron, Mission Support Group, at an ANG Aviation Wing. The primary purpose of this position is to operate and maintain a fuel distribution system that includes a fuels laboratory, cryogenic storage, bulk storage, base service station, fuels information service center, mobile fueling operations , and to manage all accounts for missile propellants, aviation fuels, ground fuels and cryogenics utilized in support of aircraft, motor vehicles, engine test cells, powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), generators and heating systems required to support the Wing mission and transient aircraft.
b. DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
(1) Inspects, operates and maintains a complete fuels distribution system(s) to receive, store, transfer and issue both aviation and ground fuels. Inspects systems for leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and inoperative components such as distribution lines, storage tanks, hydrant pits/outlets, oil/water separator, pumps, automatic/manual valves, meters, and system control rooms. Performs operator maintenance to include checking components for operation, adjustment, pressures, and external leakage under pressure, removing/cleaning/inspecting receipt and dispensing strainers, calibrating additive injectors, draining water from lines, tanks, filter separator vessels and dike/containment areas.
(2) Operates, inspects and performs all required maintenance and repair on 400-5,000 gallon cryogenic storage tanks. Inspects, maintains, performs operator maintenance, and minor repairs to support equipment and cryogenic samplers to include the following: air purging units, vacuum gauges, vacuum pumps, portable efficiency meters, portable samplers and other support equipment that is required to maintain the cryogenic storage tank in a ready condition to receive, store and transfer LOX or LIN. Applies safety or precautionary procedures required in handling cryogenic fluids. Analyzes, isolates, and corrects system malfunctions. Performs preventive maintenance on components and tanks, to include inspections.
(3) Performs required quality control testing in the fuels laboratory as set forth in TO 42B-1-1, AFI 23-201 and other governing directives. Draws product samples from receiving transports, pipeline, mobile equipment and bulk storage tanks. Performs base level laboratory analysis of these samples in accordance with applicable specifications, technical orders and other quality assurance manuals. Maintains constant surveillance over all fuels equipment and systems to ensure no deviation from accepted quality assurance standards. Uses independent judgment and a comprehensive understanding of product specifications to make field-type visual and/or instrument checks that are necessary to identify product or product contamination. Directs, implements and monitors the Lock Out/Tag Out program IAW applicable AFOSH Standards.
(4) Administers Fuels Information Service Center . Monitors ongoing operations to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and operational standards are met. Uses established computer techniques to identify and promptly resolve network-related problems within the organization. Trouble shoots hardware, software, and Local Area Network (LAN) problems. Identifies and determines corrective action to be taken in case of individual job failures not covered by standard procedures. Resolves partial system failures (software or hardware-related) by providing for revised applications of system operating capabilities, which involves working through or around the problems with reduced capacity, and readjusting the system when full operating configuration is resolved.
(5) Operates one or more types of special purpose design aviation and ground fuel tank truck vehicles having a capacity of up to 6,000 gallons and gross vehicle weight of 70,000 pounds used for fueling/defueling various types of aircraft and ground fuels applications such as AGE, power production, heating and engine test cells. Transports fuel from the bulk storage area to the flightline issue point, positions the vehicle for the refueling/defueling task as required. Monitors vehicle mounted main control panel, gauges, meters and instruments. Operates deadman control safety system and coordinates with personnel at the aircraft or receiving point. Exercises safety precautions during fueling/defueling operations. Inspects and performs operator maintenance and safety checks to ensure that refueling equipment is safe and operational.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Work involves working in one or more work stations of a fuel distribution system, or operating a complete system, to receive, store, transfer and issue petroleum and other products such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and anhydrous ammonia.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE :
Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and to safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Must possess at least 12 months experience or training working in activities such as large fuel depots or fuel farms with complex, interconnecting line and pipe arrangements, and frequent requirements for large scale movement and transfer of a variety of liquid fuels.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment prior to the effective date of placement.
This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle. Applicants must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Technicians are paid through Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer (DD/EFT).

Military Technicians are ineligible for military enlistment, retention, and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position will terminate these military incentives.
