Job Summay:
Provide support, design, and implement enhanced tutoring, mentoring, and first-year college experience programming. Foster parent engagement.
The Student Support Assistant (SSA) will assist mentors in helping freshmen students in the transition to college life and academics and provide support through one-on-one meetings, organized group events, and by being available for questions and guidance. Staff will also provide coordination of tutors at the secondary schools during the school year. Provide tutors with training and resources.

1. Develop and organize services for freshmen at LCCC that help student retention and graduation rates
Develop a process for staff to be more engaged in mentoring, tutoring, and other support services to help students succeed and persist
Assisting freshmen students in building community, utilizing campus resources and developing independent strategies for success
2. Build relationships and collaborative partnerships with GEAR UP parents
Develop educational and team-building programming for parent participants
Maintain positive and professional communication channels for parents
3. Recruit volunteer or staff tutors for middle school, high school, and college-level GEAR UP participants
Recruit undergraduate volunteer peer mentors
Assist in training tutors and/or volunteer peer mentors
Create personnel tracking systems for mentors and tutors
Organize staff meetings for GEAR UP employees
Completing and turning in federal grant paperwork by the deadlines set by GU staff
4. Build relationships and collaborative partnerships with community resources
Expand social media presence and the GEAR UP alumni community
Represent GEAR UP with a sense of professionalism, objectivity, and tact
Organizing mentor training opportunities and GEAR UP events
