Summary:
The Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships provides leadership and direction in all areas of the financial aid and scholarship administration. The Director plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The Director administers state and federal financial aid, scholarships, veterans' educational benefits, and the Hathaway Scholarship program. The department coordinates the awarding and delivery of over $8.5 million in federal, state, institutional, and external financial aid and resources annually. The Director interacts with students, parents, faculty, staff, community members, and representatives of external agencies involved with the administration and delivery of financial aid. The Director is responsible for the education of the campus community, promotion, and awareness of student aid programs through presentations, correspondence, and other means.
The Director advises, consults, and coordinates with all campus entities regarding activities pertaining to student eligibility, compliance, financial aid awarding and disbursement, account reconciliation, reporting needs, student employment, computer support, publicity, funding requirements and availability, and other matters. Off-campus relationships include m but are not limited to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, lenders, guarantee agencies, financial aid directors, and personnel at other institutions, scholarship donors, social service agencies, Wyoming Community College Commission, the U. S. Department of Education, the Wyoming Department of Education.
The Director must maintain a high level of professional competence in best practices in financial aid, program assessment, operational budgeting, and the Ellucian Colleague system. The Director will collaborate across departments for effective and accurate service to students. Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills are essential.
This position requires excellent communication skills with both internal and external constituents and must be able to represent the College in a well-informed and professional manner. Occasional assistance with Student Services event planning and execution, and other activities may also be required.
All Student Services team members must provide excellent customer service to students and prospective students in person as well as by phone, fax and email. Occasional evening and weekend work and overnight travel may be required.
This position will work independently, reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Services but with a high degree of autonomy in organizing his/her own work. Day-to-day decisions may affect several Student Services departments and others across the College, so a high degree of collaboration and communication are essential. This position may at times speak for the College in matters related to financial aid, and at all times will be expected to keep the Vice President of Student Services, and often the President of Laramie County Community College well informed of activities affecting the College.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
Compensation: This is a PRofessional Level II position. Commensurate with experience.

Knowledge of current financial aid regulations
Ability to train new and experienced staff regarding complex regulations and processing
Ability to read and interpret a large volume of federal regulations and related guidance continually
Ability to effectively implement regulations to achieve compliance
Ability to disseminate complex information to appropriate personnel and offices
Ability to communicate complex information to students, parents, faculty, and staff
Possession of well-developed interpersonal skills
Ability to tactfully and professionally resolve customer service issues, sometimes in emotionally charged circumstances
Possession of exceptional organizational and time-management skills
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities simultaneously
Possession of strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities
An understanding and knowledge of financial aid technology (experience with Ellucian Colleague strongly preferred)
Ability to manage office operations within budgetary constraints
Ability to supervise multiple staffs with varying assignments and experience
Ability to perform well under pressure
Effective oral and written communication skills for working both internally and externally to the institution
Excellent technical, analytical, trouble-shooting and problem solving skills
Knowledge of the institutional mission, philosophy, policies and procedures and the ability to convey this to diverse audiences in writing as well as in one-on-one, small group and public settings in a professional
Physical/Mental Demands:
To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate confidentiality with regard to student information, documents, issues, , and respect privacy needs of students and former students with regard to the same
Extensive reading (thousands of pages per year) of technical information such as the Federal Student Aid Handbook, Dear Colleague Letters, the Federal Register, professional publications, , to stay abreast of rapidly changing federal regulations
The ability to comply with inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be occasional occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
There may be occurrences of students, colleagues, and others who express opinions or may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
Prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree
Five or more years in a progressive management role
Supervisory experience
Preferred:
Master's degree
Five or more years in financial assistance or financial aid field
Supervisory experience required;
Demonstrated ability in the use of the Ellucian Colleague Student module system or other major student information system at the functional end-user level
Bilingual in Spanish and English

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
