Job Duties and Responsibilities
DISH's Digital Broadcast Centers provide advanced online video delivery and satellite video delivery for broadcasters and pay-TV operators across North America. Through our network of uplink centers, these world-class facilities are also home to EchoStar's 24/7 traffic, technical operations, and satellite access centers. This team is comprised of experienced professionals dedicated to providing customers with an unparalleled level of service delivering content and programming to over 16 million subscribers every day.The IPTV department maintains the IPVOD content infrastructure as well as back-end systems for remote viewing and management of set top boxes. Some contact with customers and outside vendors will occur, so candidate must have good customer interface skills. This position is on the overnight shift - 12:00 PM to 10:00 AM Wednesdays through Saturdays Dish Technologies is seeking an Data Center Technician at its Cheyenne, WY data center to monitor all activities of the network facility ensuring high quality data transmission.
Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:
Monitor the health of the network, storage and servers using a variety of tools including Zenoss, Zabbix, and in-house developed dashboards
Provide Tier 1 telephone contact for IPTV systems
Generate trouble tickets and escalating to Tier 2 teams as needed
Follow up with Tier 2 and customers to confirm issue resolution
Perform intermediate trouble shooting of servers, network devices, and applications
Installation of operating systems and software applications
Cross-train and coach team membership on systems and procedures
Other duties as assigned.
The position is a shift position as this role requires 24/7 staffing.
Skills - Experience and Requirements
A successful Dat Center Technician will have the following:
HS Diploma/GED and 3 or more years of experience in systems, software, or network support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 or more years of experience in UNIX/Linux server administration including scripting in one or more languages
Ability to work an overnight shift - 12:00 AM to 10:00 AM Wednesdays through Saturdays
Must be able to stand, walk, and reach while performing the duties of this job
Must be able to work any shift as assigned, as dictated by the needs of a 24/7 operation
Preferred
Qualifications:
Ability to generate basic documents and simple spreadsheets in MS Office
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data so that trends can be recognized before they become a customer-impacting issue
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers and coworkers
Experience with VMWare and related technologies (vCenter, VSphere)
Isilon and EMC storage technologies.
